A well functioning upper extremity can be crucial to most activities of daily living. Injuries or diseases involving the bones, muscles, tendons, nerves, and joints of the hand and upper extremity can limit a person’s ability to perform even simple tasks. The physicians at Virginia Orthopaedics have been trained in treating problems in the upper extremity. Common problems include carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger fingers, tennis and golfer’s elbow, tendonitis, arthritis, cysts, complex lacerations, fractures, and tumors.
One of our physicians, Dr. William Hooper, has special expertise in managing a wide array of complex upper extremity conditions. Dr. Hooper has over 20 years experience in the field of hand and elbow surgery, and diagnoses and treats patients from the entire region. He trained at the world renown San Antonio Hand Center after completing medical school at Duke University and Orthopedic residency at UVA in Charlottesville. Most patients can be treated with conservative methods, but some need surgery. Dr. Hooper has experience in minimally invasive procedures, small joint arthroscopy, as well as extensive reconstructive surgeries.
