Catherine Daniel, MDCatherine Daniel, MD

Dr. Daniel is from the Roanoke area having grown up in Franklin County. She is a rheumatologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, gout and psoriatic arthritis. She also treats patients with connective tissue diseases ranging from systemic lupus erythematosis, to more rare diseases such as vasculitis. With the development of new biologic therapies for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, there are more options for patients than ever before. Early recognition and therapy can improve physical function and prevent debility and joint damage. Dr. Daniel takes a comprehensive medical history and performs a thorough physical exam with each new patient evaluation, and then customizes patient’s therapy according to their needs.

She graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1998. She completed her Internal Medicine residency training at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama. She completed fellowship training at the University of Alabama in rheumatology in 2003, whose program is consistently rated in the US News and Report Top Ten rheumatology programs. After that time, she joined the UAB faculty and was an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology. She is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. 

She has written numerous journal articles and textbook chapters which have included the Journal of Rheumatology and Arthritis and Allied Conditions. She has been a speaker for medical professionals, patients and community groups on a broad range of topics including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, and osteoarthritis. She has been active in the Medical Society of Virginia, the Roanoke Valley Academy of Medicine, and the Roanoke Valley Academy of Medicine Alliance, as well as church and community volunteer organizations.
