Mark W. Hagy, MDMark W. Hagy, MD

Dr. Hagy joined Virginia Orthopaedics in 2005. First and foremost, he is an orthopaedist who strives to listen to patients and help people understand their problem while guiding them through the complexities of the medical environment.

He has received subspecialty training in foot, ankle and knee surgery. In addition, his basic training from the University of Iowa enables him to evaluate and resolve complex hip problems, as well.

Dr. Hagy evaluates all orthopaedic conditions. But his extensive education allows him to combine the most current technologies with a thorough scientific approach when consulting on matters of the lower extremity. Furthermore, Dr. Hagy’s experience in taking care of collegiate, high school and professional teams throughout his career, gives him the ability to provide expert insight on matters involving athletes.

Dr. Hagy graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1999. He is a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor society, an honor given to those who achieve the highest academic standing while in medical training. He completed his residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in 2004. His lower extremity fellowships were completed at The Australian Institute of Musculoskeletal Research in 2005. He is a board certified Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and the American Academy of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

Dr. Hagy consults at Lewis Gale Medical Center, where he performs his inpatient surgeries. He also provides services at Roanoke Ambulatory Surgery Center.

Although his current passion is patient care, Dr. Hagy has published articles in The Journal for Bones and Joint Surgery, Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research and The University of Iowa Orthopaedic Journal, the latter of which he served as Editor.

Finally, Dr. Hagy’s primary goal is to provide attentive care and technical expertise in a unique, compassionate manner.
