Spine surgery is the medical and surgical treatment of problems of the back and neck. Common
problems presenting for spine evaluation can include disk herniations, scoliosis, spinal tumors, arthritis,
pinched nerves, and spinal stenosis. Dr. Riebel has expertise in standard and microsurgical techniques.
Patients usually are prescribed a conservative treatment course prior to surgical intervention.
Common symptoms that might induce you to see a spine surgery expert would be neck pain, with or
without arm pain, back pain, with or without leg pain, spine deformity or curvature. Many of these
conditions are amenable to the newer minimally invasive procedures, shortening your healing time and
limiting disability.
How long until I can be seen? Usually emergency cases can be seen within a few days, while routine
new patient appointments may require a waiting time of several weeks.
How do I know if I need to be seen in the ER or if I should make an appointment? Danger signs of spinal
problems which would require emergency room visit would include intractable pain, loss of neurologic
function, or severe injury.
